An Inclusive Playground Climber
The Sensory Wave Climber won out over 16 finalists in its category. GameTime designed the product in partnership with Charlotte-based design firm BOLTGROUP. Sensory Wave Climber is the industry’s first inclusive playground climber.
Many people think of inclusive play in terms of accessibility for people with physical limitations. But 1 in 6 children between the ages of 2 and 8 have social, emotional, and cognitive disabilities.
The Sensory Wave Climber addresses the needs of these children and of every child. It also provides a stimulating sensory play experience for all children. The combination of physical climbing with rich multi-sensory experiences is a true innovation.
Designed for Exploration
The undulating design invites children to explore and interact with sensory elements and with one another. The molded-in handgrips, footholds, and supports are ergonomically-designed. They assist children as they climb up, over, through, and around. With the optional interactive sensory modules, children engage in play patterns beyond physical play.
Visual, auditory, and tactile elements promote sensory integration and enhance fine motor skills. For users with limited mobility, adaptive switches can activate the sensors. Sensory Wave Climber is the first commercial playground equipment with this capability.
